Here’s a fact, even when you do achieve a large amount of weight loss your body will still fight to put the weight you lost back on. Don’t believe me? Look at the success rate of "The Biggest Loser” contestants. In a 2016 study, which followed 14 participants 6 years after their initial weight loss, 1/3 of the participants were within 1% of their baseline starting weight or above. 13 out of 14 of the participants regained about 66% of the weight they lost and 4 participants were heavier than when they started.

Kyla Gavlin is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian & Nutritionist. She believes that food is medicine and what we eat can either harm us or heal us. However, Kyla is not the food police and believes that all foods fit into an overall healthy diet (life would be too short without pizza!).
Originally from the Midwest, Kyla fell in love with the mountains of western North Carolina during her dietetic internship through Lenoir-Rhyne University and made Asheville her home in the summer of 2016. Kyla is a proud alumni of Saint Louis University and graduated with both her undergraduate (B.S. Nutrition & Dietetics ‘12) and graduate degree (M.S. Nutrition & Dietetics ‘16).
In her spare time, Kyla enjoys CrossFit, cooking, reading, and spending time with her boyfriend and goldendoodle, Moony.
